Nonprofit Spotlight

Science Vortex STEAM Center

Founded in 2020

by Laurie Altringer.

$45,000+

received in grant funding from ACF supporting organizations.

The Science Vortex STEAM Center in Cottonwood is harnessing the power of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics to encourage children to think critically, problem solve, and explore their creativity.

During a visit to the Science Vortex, students have the opportunity to explore Tesla Coils using a funky plasma globe, build their own Rube Goldberg machine, test the wonders of physics with a rocket launcher, or even watch a topographical landscape come to life through an augmented reality sandbox.

Since its founding in 2020, Science Vortex has received over $45,000 in grant funding from the Rosenbluth Family Charitable Foundation and the Ellis Center for Educational Excellence, two ACF supporting organizations.

Time and again I saw reluctant students come to life when engaged in hands-on STEAM activities. That experience inspired me to launch the Science Vortex with support from my family, friends, and community.
