Deanna Salazar and Curtiss Smith elected to the ACF Board of Directors

The Arizona Community Foundation’s Board of Directors recently elected Deanna Salazar and Curtiss Smith to the board. These two new board members were elected during the board’s November meeting.

“These individuals bring a significant amount of experience in all facets of business and philanthropy, including legal, healthcare, banking, board governance, human resources, and the nonprofit sector. The collective wisdom they bring will add value to the ACF Board for years to come and will be a tremendous asset as ACF continues to serve community needs throughout the state,” said Leezie Kim, chair of the ACF Board of Directors. “Each of these individuals have strong leadership skills and a passion for ACF’s work in the community. These attributes will make them valuable ACF Board members.”

Deanna Salazar is the Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona (BCBSAZ). In her current role, Salazar directs the company’s Community and Health Advancement, Audit, Compliance, Privacy, Government Affairs, and Legal teams.

Prior to joining BCBSAZ, Salazar was a partner with the Phoenix law firm of Lewis and Roca, Senior Counsel. She is a member of the Arizona and Colorado state bars. She has served as a member of the board of directors of Teach for America, The Sandra Day O’Connor Institute, and Chicanos Por La Causa. Modern Healthcare magazine recently named her to its list of Top Diversity leaders.

She received a bachelor’s degree from Adams State College and a juris doctorate degree from Arizona State University College of Law.

Curtiss Smith is the Phoenix Region President at Northern Trust. In his current role, Smith oversees the growth and development of the Phoenix and Scottsdale markets alongside a tenured team of wealth management leaders responsible for the delivery of best-in-class investment management, trust, banking and advisory based solutions.

Smith joined Northern Trust in 2015 as Senior Vice President and Banking Practice Leader for Northern Trust’s Arizona, Colorado, and Nevada markets. He was responsible for growing the firm’s lending business while overseeing credit and portfolio related risk.

Smith, a Certified Public Accountant, has more than 28 years of experience in various commercial banking roles in Phoenix and San Francisco, including commercial and industrial lending, commercial real estate, asset-based lending, private banking, and credit risk management.

Smith is active in the Arizona community and has been a past board member at the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants. He served as director for Executive Council Charities and Arcadia Little League. Smith is currently a member of Greater Phoenix Leadership and serves as a Director and Vice Chairman at Ballet Arizona.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Santa Clara University and his Master of Business Administration from Arizona State University.

Arizona Community Foundation Board members serve three-year terms, renewable up to two times.
