The James A. Fortmann Scholarship is in honor of James Fortmann’s dedication to a career in art and art education. Mr. Fortmann, and his wife, Javus Fortmann, a former public school administrator, retired to Sedona, Arizona, and because of their connection to the region wish to award high school seniors graduating from high schools in the Verde Valley or Northern Arizona and attending a two- or four-year art school, college or university.
Eligibility Criteria:
– U.S. citizen
– Minimum 2.5 GPA
– Graduating high school seniors from an Arizona high school. Preference for students graduating from the Verde Valley (Sedona, Cottonwood, Clarkdale, Camp Verde) or Northern Arizona (Flagstaff and surrounding area)
– Full-time student majoring in Commercial Art, Fine Art, Art Education or Art History and attending an accredited Arizona community college or university (Examples of careers: advertising and commercial design, commercial photography, fashion design, general visual communications design, graphic design, industrial design, interior design; art gallery manager, exhibition designer, fine artist, graphic designer, arts administrator; art teacher; nonprofit administrator, museum/gallery curator, art consultant)
– High financial need as indicated in the Student Aid Report from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Award Renewals:
Award is renewable for up to three additional years as long as student maintains the required GPA, continues as an Art major, and displays determination to complete the degree as evidenced from their transcript. Eligible students will be contacted via email each spring with instructions on how to request renewed funding.
The Javus B. Fortmann Scholarship is in honor of Javus Fortmann’s dedication to a career in education. She was a leader and educator in the public school system for decades and wanted to inspire others to follow her lead in public school administration and education.
Eligibility Criteria:
– U.S. citizen.
– Minimum 2.5 GPA
– Graduating high school seniors from an Arizona high school; preference for students graduating from high schools in the Verde Valley (Sedona, Cottonwood, Clarkdale, Camp Verde) or Northern Arizona (Flagstaff and surrounding area)
– Full-time student
– Pursuing a major in education and an education-related career (ex: teacher, instructional coordinator, high school counselor, etc.)
– Admitted to an accredited Arizona community college or university; online campuses are not eligible; however, students may take some online coursework if enrolled as a student and attending a physical Arizona campus
– High financial need as indicated in the Student Aid Report from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
– Preference for students accepted to and attending Northern Arizona University
Award Renewals:
Award is renewable for up to five additional years (six annual awards maximum) as long as students maintain the required GPA, continue as an education major, and display determination to complete the degree as evidenced from their transcript. Eligible students will be contacted via email each spring with instructions on how to request renewed funding.
The Mahler – Ring Scholarship was created to support students at Williams High School, in Williams Arizona. The students should be interested in pursuing a career in either the Science or Engineering fields, at any accredited post secondary institution.
Eligibility Criteria:
– Graduating Senior at Williams High School
– Plan to major in a Science or Engineering field
– 2.5 GPA or higher
– Attend any 4-year college/university, full time
Renewal:
Award may be renewed for an additional year, if the student maintains a 2.5 GPA and field of study. Eligible students will be contacted via email with instructions on how to request continued funding.
Eligibility Criteria:
– High school senior or current college undergraduate student who graduated from high school in Northern Arizona (Coconino, Navajo, Mohave, Yavapai and Apache Counties)
– Student can attend any U.S. college or university
– Native American ethnicity
– Cumulative 2.0 GPA or higher
– Commitment and demonstrated excellence in art
– Essay submission and letter of recommendation
– Submission of 2 (minimum) pictures of artwork
Award Details:
Witkoff Scholarships range from $500 – $2,000. Awards will be distributed directly to the schools of the winning candidates. Funding may be used for the following purposes: Tuition for art workshops; College level art classes; Art supplies as needed for concurrent instructions (receipts must be presented).
This award is not renewable.
Awarded to a female and male graduating senior for their achievements in academics, athletics, leadership, and in demonstrating the characteristics of a student athlete for all students at Holbrook High School.
Eligibility Criteria:
– Graduating senior at Holbrook High School
– 3.0 minimum GPA
– Demonstrated leadership on and off the court. Please ensure that your description of your services and activities is detailed
– Full-time student
– Student athlete
– Preference will be given to: First generation college attendance; Financial Need; Traditionally marginalized groups

Nicole and Jacob Garcia started this scholarship fund for Holbrook High School seniors.
Eligibility Criteria:
– U.S. Citizen
– Male or Female
– Holbrook High School graduating senior who will be attending a career/technical school, community college, or university
– Must perform 25 hours of community service.

The Page-Lake Powell Scholarship provides funding for Navajo college students studying in engineering, construction or related fields which may enhance economic development.
Eligibility Criteria:
– Student must have attended high school in Page, Arizona
– Must identify as Navajo
– Preference for graduating high school seniors
– Must plan to study Construction, Engineering, or Economic Development at any college/university
This scholarship was established by the family of Steven Thayer to provide scholarship funding for young Hopi artists to develop their talents and artistic skill.
Eligibility Criteria:
– Member of the Hopi Nation
– Preferred minimum GPA of 3.0 in high school as well as in any college level studies
– Intention to study, or already a student in a program to enhance artistic ability and creativity at a recognized art institute or at a community college or university with a major in art
Award Details:
The scholarship award is not automatically renewed. A recipient from a previous year may compete with other applicants for award in subsequent years.
