The Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma is a family of charitable funds created for the community, by the community. Some funds have a broad grantmaking focus while others target a specific organization or field. Grants are awarded year-round either through donor advice or through a competitive process overseen by our local Board of Advisors.
During the 12-month period ending March 31, 2020, the Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma awarded over $300,000 in grants and scholarships through the competitive grants process and through the advice of donors who have established funds with ACF of Yuma. Since inception, ACF of Yuma has awarded over $8.2 million in total grants and scholarships to Yuma area nonprofit organizations and students.

The online grant application is now closed and grantees will be announced in the fall of 2021.
Supporting our Veterans: Yuma Veterans Fund
The Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma is building a charitable fund to support the needs of military veterans. Substantial gifts to ACF of Yuma presented an opportunity to leverage support for the Yuma Veterans Fund. An anonymous donor, a veteran, made a $10,000 challenge gift. Every two-dollar donation to the fund was matched with an additional dollar. A second $10,000 challenge gift was received from Southwest Gas corporation.
Because the Yuma Veterans Fund will be an endowed fund, it will exist in perpetuity, with grants made from the interest earned, always there to provide support for local veterans' needs. A local grant distribution committee will be responsible for grantmaking recommendations and dollars raised in the county for the fund will remain in the county. The committee will include individuals with a stake in veterans' issues, for example, a post chaplain, military spouses, and active and retired military.
Yuma Veterans Loan Project
The Yuma Veterans Recoverable Loan Project is a special loan fund that provides interest-free, short-term loans to any deserving Veteran with an honorable discharge. According to recent studies, claims through the Department of Veterans Affairs can take an average of 272 days to be processed, with some lingering for as long as a year. Loans from this charitable fund provide an interim financing solution, funding immediate needs such as trips to the VA Hospital, school expenses, medical emergencies, and rent and utility deposits. As a result of generous contributions from Yuma County residents and with support from our project partner, The Salvation Army Yuma, loans have already been made.
