he Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma is now accepting nominations for the 19th annual Heart of Yuma Awards. The Heart of Yuma celebrates organizations and individuals who exceed expectations as they work to ensure Yuma remains a great place to live. Community members are now invited to submit their nominations in the following categories:
Honorees will be recognized at the Heart of Yuma event on Tuesday, October 23 at the Yuma Civic Center at 6:00 p.m. All nominations will be reviewed by the Heart of Yuma Blue Ribbon Panel, and all nominees, whether category winners or not, will be recognized for their contributions by being called forward at the event to receive a beautiful Heart of Yuma paperweight.

You can submit your nomination online directly, email your form to Yuma@azfoundation.org, or mail hard copies to Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma, P.O. Box 6835, Yuma, AZ 85366. Last year, Danny and Susan Bryant were named Philanthropists of the Year for their commitment and service to the Yuma community. Adele Hennig was named Outstanding Volunteer, Lenore Farese named Outstanding Benefactor, Pat and Kirin Cooley were named Outstanding Leaders and Garvey Blackwell
was named Outstanding Young Leader. Yuma’s Chapter of The Well Armed Woman was named Outstanding Nonprofit Organization and the 1st Bank of Yuma was named Outstanding For-Profit Corporation.
The annual competitive grants process for the Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma and the San Luis Community Fund will provide financial support to worthy projects and programs serving residents of Yuma County and San Luis. The online grant application will open at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, July 23 at www.azfoundation.org/grants. Completed applications must be submitted before 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17 to be considered.
Local nonprofit organizations, public schools, government agencies and Tribal entities are invited to apply for funding to support projects and programs serving local communities. The Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma accepts funding requests for projects and programs that support youth, healthcare, arts and culture, as well as funding requests that do not fit into those categories through the unrestricted fund category. Grant applicants must provide services within the geographic area of Yuma County. The San Luis Community Fund accepts funding requests for projects and programs that support youth, health or human services, and arts and culture. Grant applicants must provide services to residents of San Luis, AZ.
Last year, the Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma awarded more than $122,000 in grants through its competitive grants cycle to 21 nonprofit organizations serving the Yuma and San Luis communities.

The Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma has awarded more than $81,750 in scholarships for the 2017-2018 academic year. Listed below are the 20 Yuma County Scholars who are pursuing degrees in a variety of disciplines at Arizona Western College, University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University, Grand Canyon University, and universities outside Arizona.
Since it was established in 1993, the Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma has placed a high priority on education. Through the competitive application process of the Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma, grant funding will be awarded for nonprofit organizations and programs serving Yuma residents. To learn more about the application process and elements of an effective application, representatives of nonprofit organizations, public schools, municipalities and Tribal entities are invited to attend an upcoming grant workshop.
Topics to be discussed during the workshop include the application timeline, eligibility requirements, guidelines and instructions for the Arizona Community Foundation online grants center.
